The functions of Department of Financial Investigations are set forth in the Regulations on the Department of Financial Investigations adopted by Presidential Decree No. 87 of 11 February 2009. The major objectives include counteracting economic crimes and offenses, maintaining the economic security of the Republic of Belarus, preventing, detecting and suppressing economic crimes, including corruption, holding preliminary investigation, interrogation and the relevant administrative procedures within their scope of authority, performing other tasks stipulated in the legislation.
The Department carries out inspections, operation and search activities, preliminary investigation and interrogation, administrative procedures, takes measures to prevent crimes and administrative offenses.
Since 2001 the State Control Committee has been member of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). In 2002 it joined the European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI). The Committee is also member of the council of the heads of the CIS supreme audit institutions.
The membership in international organizations allows the State Control Committee to be a full member of the international audit community, gives an opportunity to study, analyze and adopt best international practices. Besides, with a view to sharing expertise and holding joint audit events, the State Control Committee of the Republic of Belarus signed bilateral cooperation agreements with the supreme audit institutions of Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, China, Poland, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Vietnam, Latvia, and Azerbaijan.
