Representatives of the State Control Committee, the National Bank, and the Ministry of Finance took part in the 32nd special Plenary meeting of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism (EAG).
The event was led by Mr Yury Chikhanchin, EAG Chairman, Director of the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring of Russia and with the participation of Mr Xiangmin Liu, President of the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF).
Taking into account the epidemiological situation in the EAG member states and with the support of the FATF, the activities related to the international assessment of anti-laundering systems in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have been postponed for 6 months. Details of the assessment process will be discussed at the next EAG Plenary meeting, as expected in November this year. In the list of assessors for these countries were included specialists from state bodies of Belarus (State Control Committee, General Prosecutor's Office and National Bank).
Noting the importance of monitoring of new challenges and threats and minimizing them, the Plenary meeting approved the methodology for assessing the risks of money laundering and terrorist financing (ML / FT) in the Eurasian region, as well as methods for collecting information. Information gathering will begin in the very near future.
The delegations decided to restore Germany to EAG observer status. The plenary session noted the high importance of joint work with the Federal Republic of Germany and expressed hope for fruitful cooperation.
The agenda included an interim report of the EAG Secretariat on the implementation of a pilot project to coordinate technical assistance to Tajikistan, as well as a report on EAG activities in 2019, the EAG budget for 2021. The participants approved amendments to a number of acting EAG documents regulating the activities of EAG Secretariat.
In case of improvement of the epidemiological situation in the world, the next 33rd EAG Plenary meeting will be held in November 2020 in Uzbekistan. All news
