This workshop on experience exchange in use of information technologies for carrying out financial analysis for combating money laundering and financing of terrorism was attended by representatives from nearly 20 countries and six international organizations.
Vitaly Prosvirov, Head of the department of the financial intelligence unit of Belarus noted that it’s a great honor for our country to host such significant forum. For the first time EAG and Egmont group carried out such a joint activity on the issues of information technologies development.
In the framework of workshop representatives of EAG states members (Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) discussed with the delegation of Egmont group the issues of mutual interest. The leading specialists on IT from financial intelligence units (FIUs) made their presentations.
The Egmont group Chairman, Head of Belgian FIU Mr. Boudewijn Verhelst noted the impossibility of the efficient work of any financial intelligence without IT use and close cooperation with colleagues from other countries. The use of new information technologies given to financial analysts a real opportunity to increase the transparency of financial systems.
The Egmont group Chairman focused on the fact that Egmont group members have access to high-tech communication channels which can significantly extend the exchange of financial information. Head of Belgian FIU noted the successful cooperation of Egmont group with countries of Eastern Europe. Mr. Verhelst who visited Minsk for the first time welcomed the participation of FIU of Belarus in Egmont group activities and expressed the hope for further cooperation.
The joint EAG/Egmont group workshop was the first event in the framework of the 18th EAG Plenary week, which takes place in Minsk from 20 to 24 May. Working groups meetings and finally 18th EAG Plenary meeting will be held the next days. All news
